Stuck, Besigye Suspends Beti Kamya for Six Months

Posted on 10 February 2009

Since mid-2008 the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Wafula Ogutu, Salam Musumba and other senior party officials have been politically pinned down by one woman, Beti Namisango Kamya. They have tried hard to politically destroy Beti (Lubaga North MP in Mr. Museveni’s parliament )  for “getting obsessed with Buganda”. But they seem to have failed because evidence is that she has literary sucked the air out of FDC in Buganda her “Buganda and Kabaka first!” message continues to infect frustrated Baganda youth like a virus. Consider that FDC have all but given up on holding local branch elections in Buganda because Kamya said “No”.

Kamya has given FDC a public relations fight in Buganda that they seem to have been unprepared for.  A Kampala based analyst told this writer that numerous stories have been planted in the New Vision and, much more so, in the Monitor and Red Pepper to portray Kamya as politically lost. “But they have had minimal negative effect on Beti mainly because she has stayed focused on the Buganda message.  She knows what the tens of thousands of Baganda youth are interested in, Kabaka and Buganda nationalism. So she rattles Besigye and Wafula and when they attack her with fake stories she (the martyr) only gets stronger. And the more the Baganda FDCs like Joyce Sebugwawo and Yusuf Nsibambi attack her the more they resemble Janet Mukwaya and Apollo Nsibambi working for Museveni.”

Kamya went in full gear in September 2008 after she returned from the international Baganda conference, Ttabamiruka ’08. She came back with a new message that you can also there in the Ttabamiruka ’08 Resolutions. The main ideas in Kamya’s message are that: (1) Baganda must stop being cowards and asking others to give them what is truly theirs; (2) Political parties have failed Ssabasajja Kabaka and Buganda, so Baganda must not support any party (including her FDC) except if it is willing to sign a contract to wholeheartedly support returning everything that has been stolen from Baganda; and (3) Baganda don’t owe anybody anything and must stop apologizing for who they are and start demanding their rights.

Kamya’s “Buganda first party later” message has affected not only FDC.  Certain Mmengo officials who have benefited from having a foot both in Buganda government and Uganda politics are literally panicking about the steady spread of Kamya’s message among youth and villagers in Buganda (on weekends Kamya make public speeches in various Buganda counties, staying on message ). And DP’s president in waiting Norbert Mao from Acholi (he created his name from Milton Apollo Obote) is also a a bit confused.

Then came the dramatic news yesterday that the FDC leadership who have accused Kamya of spying for Museveni using specially built laptops, selling party secrets and many other evils, had decided to only suspend her for 6 months.  During the suspension Kamya is not supposed to for or about the party.  During a press conference, FDC spokesman Wafula Ogutu, the FDC’s disciplinary committee had found Ms. Kamya guilty of violating the party’s code of conduct. Beti did not attend of attempt to defend herself to the committee.

A Muganda former support of FDC who is based in the USA has told this write by email: “Besigye, Museveni and Obote are the same people – Baganda abusers who are very nice until a bold Muganda stands up to demand his or her rights. Beti has exposed them and they are stuck. Ask yourself, if Beti is Museveni spy in FDC as Ogutu and Joyce Sebugwawo claim, why only suspend her? Why not kick her out of the party? My eyes are open now – Buganda and Kabaka first! I hope Baganda remaining in FDC or getting ready to be manipulated by Mao in DP will wake up soon too.”

    Beti,

You have my full support on this. This is the only way forward for Buganda. Atakwagala nawe t’omwagala, period!! The party must be over! And a great bunch of my gratitudes to you Beti Namisango Kamya, Hussein Kyanjo, Betty Nambooze, Meldard Sseggona, and many other Buganda nationalists out there for doing your best and helping us clearly redefine the interests of Buganda and Baganda within the those primitive confines of the occupational entity called UGANDA under the most horrendous dicatatorship of Museveni. I am already sensing that the way some of the FDC fellas are behaving now towards Beti and the Buganda Question even before they assume power, we have another disguised dictatorship in waiting! Tukooye okufuuka amaadaala ng’abaganda for others to climb on, grab power and then discard us like scumbags in the manner the twin brothers ala Obote and Museveni have done to us. Buganda and Baganda cannot and will not afford yet another round of funny games with these so-called revolutionaries ala Museveni and Besigye. Beti, go ahead and form your own party if the conditions so warrant.

And whereas I am currently living and working in far away lands from my great motherland BUGANDA, I am spiritually with all of you Baganda out there in Buganda, Uganda, East Africa and the Great Diaspora.

Beti, you definitely have the full backing of my moral, spiritual and financial support. So, go, go, go…., Beti!!! You are one of the modern heroines of the Great Buganda nation, Beti!!

    Awaangaale nnyo ayi Ssabasajja Kabaka!

    Busagwa,

    Beti,

Congratulations mwanyinaze. Kulika akataago ka ba nyakore nabakiga. I saw the report in M7’s Bukedde that you are quarreling with joyce sebugwaawo. Please always remeber not to argue with certain types of people; people may not tell the difference.

So long as you stay in the same line with the Ttabamiruka resolutions I have read on the Web I can assure you, in good time many Baganda with inferiority complexes due to UPC, NRM and DP brainwashing will see the light. Ne seruganda Kyanjo ne mwanyinafe Nambooze abakyalwanira ebifo mu DP ne JEEMA bandikwegatako.

Abaganda emekete tetukyakiriza butitiizi ku byaffe. By the way, I am determined to come and shake your hand at Ttabamiruka ‘09! Only waiting to know where it will be.

Wangala nnyo Ssabasajja Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi, Cucu, Musota, Lukoma Nantawetwa, Liso Lyoji, Mwenyango, Magulu Nnyondo, Empologoma ya Buganda.

  3. Tara Nankindu says:

I am a Muganda and pretty much proud to be one! It is really silly for many non-Baganda to hate us for no good reason. It is really ridiculous for non-Baganda to come from wherever they come and begin to sneer at us and treat us like real rugs. They steal our lands, abuse our Kabaka and do lots of other horrible, horrible things to Baganda and Buganda. Why???? It is unacceptable and many of us will not take this crap any longer. There is no government in Uganda which has hated Baganda and Bugandaness so much than the current one headed by Mr. Tibuhaburwa Museveni. Yet he is the so-called president of Uganda because of us the Baganda! If it hadn’t been for the Baganda’s support and generosity, M7 Tibuhaburwa would have been dead meat in the legendary Luwero bushes, of course thanks to Obote’s and Okello’ ruthlessness and trickery.

As a region and a nationality, we lost so much in that war in terms of human life and property for the sake of Mr. Tibuhaburwa Museveni and other folks like Besigye, Kayihura, Tinyefuza and the rest of those nyarus busy abusing our good nature and incredible hospitality. Tibuhaburwa himself was denied this rare generosity by his assumed kinsmen in Ankole and, therefore, decided to hide behind Prof. Yusuf Lule and other prominent Baganda for his selfish and tribalistic adventures. Now, he and the likes of the Besigyes are treating us like real shit!!! I am so angry with these guys and I can never and will never ever accept this kind of treatment as long my offsprings and I live. Even when time comes for me to go meet my Maker, I will go down to the grave most fulfilled and thanking the Almighty God for having created me a Muganda and for having contributed anything towards the resistance of this most vile hate-monger campaign of the Nyankoles, Nyarus and Kiigas in government today.

So, I am really happy that the two Bettys, thatz Betty Kamya and Betty Nambooze have become the latest and most brave Baganda women to lead the struggle that will ultimately see the change of political history in Uganda in favor of Baganda and the Buganda nation. And I can assure anybody who cares to pay attention to this line that the desired change in favor of Buganda will come. Our Buganda history pretty much instructs us beautifuly that the majority of Baganda don’t easily give up on struggling to achieve what they cherish most. And since Uganda history down the memory lane!!! So, Hon. Betty Kamya, thank you so much for the awesome fight you are leading against all those dark forces down there in Uganda bent of destroying our people, cultural values and the Buganda nation. I will sure belong to your Buganda party if you formed one! I am just so sick and tired of all those westerners in power now in Ugnda with all their unprecedented tribalism, corruption, nepotism, militarism, cronyism, megalomania and all sorts of their garbage they are loading over Ugandans, particularly us the Baganda!

    Wangala Ayi Sabasajja Kabaka!

  4. steve dwight says:

Ain’t seeing any difference between Museveni and Besigye. They all sucked from the same bossom! See how both treat legit political dissent and tell me why Betty should still stick around Besigye’s FDC. See what I am saying, folks?

  5. jmusinguzi says:

Nasomye jjo that this woman Joyce Sebugwawo is attacking Betty Kamya, calling her a non-Muganda? Can someone help me understand who she is? Did she get a serious education? Does she have a real job?

I ask because I have noted that she when dealing with FDC and Besigye seems to behave more respectifully than even the Baganda royal family. Could this be why

  6. Busagwa Ali says:

    Oh you bet, Steve!

M7 = Besigye and Besigye = M7. Can anyone out there tell me why the next Ugandan president after M7 must be another westerner (Munyankole/Mukiiga/Munyarwanda, etecetra…) to again load it over the Baganda and other Ugandans? And by the way, let other Ugandans who are neither Baganda nor westerners think that the Museveni/Besigye hocus pocus is only against the Baganda and Buganda. Noop!!! Remember thet German Pastor Martin Niemoller’s personal experience with the killer Nazi – Party and military machine (appropos: the NRM/NRA/UPDF is increasingly pretty much looking like the NAZIs!!) that he had initially praise-sung for and paid blind obedience to up to that material time he personally realized that the gangster Nazis wwere ultimately just a bunch of non-discriminative monstrous criminals out to terrorize everyone, including all nature of Germans themselves?? Well, just in case you could have forgetten, here are the lines for you:

“First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
    Then they came for me
and there was no one left
    to speak out for me.”

Do the lines ring a bell??

So, all of you non-Baganda Ugandans out there jubilating and/or ignorantly cheering that it serves Beti Kamya and other Baganda right to be discriminated against and/or unfairly treated by either Museveni or Besigye or the Tinyefuzas of that M7’s corruption-laden military entity called UGANDA should just know that injustice to anybody is injustice to everybody. Indeed, injustice against Baganda = Injustice to all Ugandans! It is just a question of time that other Ugandans will begin to taste the same dose of M7’s and Besigye’s medicine of primitive tribalism in the same way Betty and other Baganda have, if they do not make the requisite effort to arrest the unfolding political malaise in that banana republic.

Waangaala nyo ayi Baffe Cucu Magulunnyondo Lukomwa Natawetwamugge Ssabasajja Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II!

  7. Busagwa Ali says:

    Musinguzi,

    Abo bagaayi obateegeela otya?

FDC party runs its political business in the same way Museveni does “his” own NRM-O party. See, on Museveni’s side, he has bloody succors ala Tamale Mirundi, Abraham James Byandala, Aisha Kabanda, James William Kinobe, Katenda Luutu,Ahmed Katereega Musaazi,Gerald Kiddu Makubuya, Edward Ssekandi, Apolo Robinson Nsibambi and lots of their likes whose actions and statements against Buganda and their fellow Baganda go beyond the pale to prove to Museveni that they wouldn’t mind a bit to sell their own Baganda brothers and sisters down the river for a piece of silver just but to only make phoney and hopeless impressions upon Museveni for favors!!

In a similar manner, Besigye’s FDC party has the types of Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo who are blindly ready to be used and abused for the sake of short-term gains. Infact if I were Ssebugwawo, I would not accept to be on the frontline of insulting Kamya for FDC’s sake given the fact that the former is reportedly contemplating standing for an LC3/LC5 (?) political position in Betty’s Lubaga constituency

Regarding Joy’s education background, I haven’t been able to find any meaningful information on the net about her education level as I punched in her names. But her education level is completely beside the point, Musinguzi. Then how can you explain the actions and/or careless statements against Buganda Kingdom/Kabaka/Baganda from people you would call ‘highly educated’ such as Edward Ssekandi, Apolo Robinson Nsibambi, etal. I doubt pretty much whether Betty Nambooze is highly educated, but see how much good she has brought for the Buganda cause! Get the point I am making, my brother?

    God bless!!

  8. Tara Nankindu says:

    Busagwa,

Do you also ever notice the ugly double standards being played out by the M7s and Besigyes/Oguttus of Uganda whenever they are dealing with issues concerning Baganda and Buganda? When M7 appoints every Munyankole, Mukiiga, Munyoro and Munyarwanda into every leadership position in the army, police, prison, U.R.A, RDC, Bank of Uganda, etecetra in every corner of Uganda, and then the Betty Namboozes, Hussein Kyanjos, Erias Lukwagos, etecetra talk about this unprecedented tribalism and nepotism in Uganda, they are then branded “tribalists”. This case is no different in Besigye’s FDC where still westerners dominate every position in that party and Betty Kamya who talks against this ugly head of tribalism is branded a “tribalist”. So, why should it surprise anyone that Betty Kamya should be one of the Buganda nationalists who are coming out openly to rally Baganda around their common interests as Baganda? Ate nno gakyaali mabaga! Oluyiira lwo’kununula Buganda kati luyinda! See, M7/Besigye can deceive some Baganda for some time but cannot deceive all the Baganda all the time!!

Long live your Majesty the Kabaka!
Long live Maama Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda!
    Long live Buganda Nation!
    Long live Buganda Kingdom!
    Long live Betty Kamya!
    Long live Betty Nambooze!
    Long live Hussein Kyanjo!
    Long live Erias Lukwago!
    Long live Meldard Sseggona!
    Long live Peter Mayiiga!
    Long live David Mpanga!
Long live all our Buganda heroes and heroines!
Long live all Baganda every where u are!!

    Hi Tara,

Just take a look at this article by EDITH MPANGA that I have just lifted from this morning’s DAILY MONITOR (02/13/09)for you, Busagwa, JMusinguzi and the rest of the Baganda/Uganda folks and then compare notes. You sure will find it pretty insightful. Good reading!

Hon. Kamya, wear your bark cloth with pride
    Edith Mpanga

In response to Hon. Beti Kamya’s recent article regarding President Obama’s inauguration, Charles Okwir celebrates the return of ‘intellectual’ Beti. Okwir’s article, replete with ill-disguised condescension, gently advises Beti that intelligent Ugandans do not stoop to discussing tribal issues.

I beg to submit an alternative viewpoint, as seen among the ranks of the ‘non-intellectuals’. First off, Okwir appears not to have read President Obama’s autobiography, “Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance”. Had he done so, Mr Okwir wouldn’t have been left in any doubt that President Obama’s roots and ethnicity are a most fundamental aspect of his self-identity, even as an American. Obama would, in all likelihood, find bizarre the suggestion that tribal/ethnic discussions are the preserve of the intellectually idle.

Secondly, in the admirable American democracy whose virtues Okwir so enjoyed hearing Beti extol, ethnic minority communities tend to be passionate about their tribal identities. For that reason, Obama’s campaign team recognised and courted, for instance, the Latino, the Jewish and the Black vote. All these communities stand, first and foremost, as the ethnic groups they are, and then as Americans. America does not appear to have not suffered for this.

In Mr Okwir’s ideal world, we would all forget our tribes and focus on our nationality as Ugandans. Subjected to a reality check, this utopia falls on its face. What name, for instance, would I give my baby son in this brave, new world of oneness? Nsubuga or Okot would not do for a ‘Ugandan’, surely? What language would we speak? Swahili, of course – barring the small problem of how to ensure everyone learnt and accepted it in rejection of their mother tongue. What about traditions such as “okwaalula abalongo”, “imbalu”, “okuhingira”, “mato oput” which are exclusive to specific tribes? Blanket ban on all those? And what customary/traditional behaviour would we teach our children?
And what about the traditional folklore that, for instance, glorify our traditional heroes, sometimes at the expense of those of other tribes? Drop all that in the interests of oneness, you’d say?

Hopefully, beneath the flippant tone of the examples, my point is clear: Our tribes ultimately define who we are. They provide all the ingredients that go into giving us our individuality. They pre-date Uganda by many centuries. Strip away our tribal heritage and you are left with nought.
The ‘Ugandan’ culture would not begin to suffice. We all have more friends from our own tribe than from any other. As a Londoner, Mr Okwir must have seen, in the West Indian population, what happens to a people when they are forcibly made to forget their culture.

Today, Ugandans like Mr Okwir prefer to think of tribes as a negligible irritant in the wider context of ‘serious’ issues. They are embarrassed to hear ‘intellectuals’ engage with the issue. Hiding their heads in the sand, they ignore the fact that tribalism has been the evil that has reduced Uganda to the sorry state it is in now. They fail to see what could have led a peaceful nation like Kenya to erupt in such a violent manner in 2007/2008. They ignore the tribal issues underpinning the situation in Zimbabwe.

Fortunately they are in the minority. To Hon. Beti Kamya, I convey the message from the ranks of the non-intellectuals: We admire your courage and tenacity in turning the spotlight on this issue, which lies at the heart of the political problems Uganda has suffered since independence, but which ‘intellectuals’ blissfully ignore. Honourable Lady, wear your bark cloth with pride!

  10. Tara Nankindu says:

    Great, thx Steve!

I couldn’t certainly agree more with Edith Mpaga’s observations!

Hello 2 all of u, and take good care of yourself Steve!

Awangaale Omutanda waffe Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi!

  11. Sam Galiwango says:

    Thanks Steve Dwight.

Good reading indeed. But something tells me that the likes of Okwir have their heads so deep in the anti-Buganda sand that what we call “reasoning” they only see as “whining”.

They only take (involuntary) notice when we come out with bold stuff like the “Buganda interests first” or “Muganda first” message which Beti and the Ttabamiruka people are preaching. Edith would be twice as valuable if she ignored the Okwiris, Opondo’s and Musinguzi’s of miserable Uganda and invested in promoting the “Buganda interets first” message that her sister is pushing. That is, if she happens to believe that Buganda interests come before anything else.

    Awangaale Ssabasajja!

  12. Busagwa Ali says:

Well done, Mr. Dwight with the posting of Ms. Mpanga’s article!

This posting and many others that have already appeared on this forum and elsewhere just reassure me that more than 90% of all the Baganda across board are very angry at the kind of hate-monger campaign instigated by the most vilulent tribalist M7 against us the Bagnda. It does also clearly indicate to me that as resilient as the Baganda have always been since colonial days, they are even today not ready to submit to any primitive force whatever the circumstances.

My most heartfelt congratulations, therefore, go out to all our gallant leading Buganda nationalists on the Buganda-first-crusade back home ala Betty Kamya, Hussein Kyanjo, Meldard Sseggona, Betty Nambooze, David Mpanga, Erias Lukwago, Meddie Nsereko Ssebuliba, Ssebuliba Mutumba Mudduawulira, Moses Kasibante, Daudi Mpaga, Florence Bagunywa Nkalubo, Abasajja n’abazaana ba Kabaka bbona mu Nkoba za Mbogo, etal.

Equal gratitudes go out to Moses Mwesigwa (aka Sekanyolya), the executives of the Ggwangamujje NY/NJ, all Baganda here in North America, UK and Europe,
Omulangira James Wasajja, Angela Najjuma, Emmanuel Kayondo, Benon Teebasoboke and Rashid Sekyewa. Thank you for a good fight.

Emeritus Katikkiro Muliika Daniel deserves also my special gratitudes for a job well done in this Buganda-first crusade.

    Awangaale Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi II!

  13. Tara Nankindu says:

Abaganda, kino kyekisera buli embuzi okudda kunkondo yayo!

More than 3/4 of the officers in the military armed forces , police and prison departments are manned by the tribe of Mr. Museveni; the majority of the “juicy” public service departments ala URA and other Authorities, Bank of Uganda, cabinet, diplomatic missions, etecetra are occupied by Mr. Museveni’s tribesmen;his son is the commanding officer of the so-called Presidential Protection Brigade (matter of fact a battalion); his half-brother is a minister of sorts; M7’s inlaw Samuel Gutesa is already an extremly influential minister of foreign affairs; now his own wife is a minister of Karamoja or something… Pretty soon, his mistress X or Z will minister in charge of this or that. And the time to hear is an announcement of any of the chief’s grandson being the head of the army or a minister for this or the other! Oh, how pitiable indeed!!!

And then one blames my sister Beti for championing Buganda’s interests in the midst of this most primitive megalominiac dictatorship of M7? Gime a break!!!!
