Museveni Paper Apologizes to Kabaka Mutebi and Buganda Over Bulange Title

Posted on 01 August 2009

Finally, President Museveni relented and approved an apology to the Kabaka and people of Buganda from the New Vision, for the falsehoods they published regarding the land titles for Bulange. Accroding to sources, the text of the apology was hammered out over the whole of last week by lawyers for from both sides. Robert Kabushenga was the direct contact with Museveni and State House sources say that he briefed Museveni and got the go ahead Friday evening.

The apology, which appears in the Sunday Vision of August 1, 2009 is reproduced below:

Apology to the Kabaka

In the Sunday Vision of July 12, 2009, we published a story entitled “Bulange Title Held”.
We have established from Buganda Kingdom that the title deeds for Plots 1164 and 148 (Bulange Plaza); Plot 1165 (Bulange Building) and Plot 151 (Empty space) are intact and are in the safe custody of Buganda Kingdom.

Furthermore, these land titles have never been transferred into the names of Rexba Ltd or mortgaged to any third party.

We regret the errors and falsehoods contained in this story and sincerely apologise to His Majesty the Kabaka, Prince Crispin Jjunju and the people of Buganda for the embarrassment, anxiety and grief occasioned by the story.

We strive to inform accurately, fairly and openly for a better world.

We wish to assure His Majesty the Kabaka and all our readers that extra measures have been put in place to ensure that our articles do not fall short of the requisite standards in the future.

I am glad that some kind of respectful situation came out of it.

I think young “turks” who think that doing something wrong will earn them some kind of reward, need to be humbled and apologize.

    Thank you
