JoboAfrika.com, the pan-African recruitment website, has opened a new office in Kampala, Uganda. The new bureau will grow the East African markets, find sellers of JoboAfrika services and expand business opportunities.

James Reed, Chairman of JoboAfrika.com, explains, “We are pleased to be opening our first sales office in East Africa three months ahead of schedule. The sustainable business growth of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda combined with educated and experienced candidates in the region offers the ideal setting for JoboAfrika to thrive.”

In its first four months of operation, hundreds of jobs throughout the continent have been posted on JoboAfrika. Thousands of applications have been received by employers advertising positions on the site. Examples of qualified candidates from different countries applying for positions in other regions have proven that the African job market is fast becoming integrated, confirming JoboAfrika‟s business model.

“JoboAfrika.com will be a „social enterprise‟ whereby the sellers of advertising across the continent will retain half the income they bring in and the other half will be returned to support and sustain the site”, adds James Reed.

Francois Pariseau, from JoboAfrika Uganda says, “We are thrilled to develop a region with such potential. East African employers can now benefit from a cost effective way to seek qualified candidates and easily widen their reach to other countries.”

With more than 4 million internet users in East Africa, the service will allow registered employers to reach a broad base of job seekers. Qualified candidates are also able to browse through hundreds of employment opportunities. JoboAfrika now offers a special promotion of 200 free premium job ads per employer to be used by the end of 2009.

The service will soon be available in Swahili and French reaching residents of East Africa and French-speaking West and North Africa.

To find out more about JoboAfrika, go to www.joboafrika.com or contact Francois Pariseau at 256 (0) 783638706.

A banking officer in the Operations Division of BOU told this reporter on condition of anonymity that there are three major reasons for the misfortunes of the Shilling.

The bank officer said: “First is the global financial crisis which, unfortunately, both the BOU governor and ministry of finance (MOF) chose to joke about early this year. However, it has caused the funds remitted by Ugandans abroad, especially Baganda, doing kyeeyo to fall drastically as work becomes harder to get. Similarly, local NGO’s and church pastors are experiencing a tough time fundraising in the USA and Europe. Many of them are collapsing or firing employees as the dollars dry up.

“The second major reason is that our exports are not seriously growing in dollar terms. Even the recent increase in exports to Southern Sudan seem appears to have been a bubble because the Sudanese central government is now limiting the supply of dollars to the South due to political tensions. The dollar shortage in Sudan has in turn reduced the dollars which corrupt Southern officials have been bringing into Uganda to bank or buy mansions and Buganda land.”

The third reason that the banking officer gave is Uganda official corruption and greed. He pointed out that: “Mr. Museveni’s state house has squandered tens of millions of dollars on deals like the presidential jet, grants to fake investors like Basajjabalaba and numerous so called ‘classified’ withdraws. When other government officials see how Mr. Museveni’s state house is stealing, they can only emulate. Over time, this unending corruption has scared the more serious investors from the local stock exchange and our government securities. In fact the weak securities markets are only surviving on laundered money which the owners are still afraid to send out of Uganda.”

The BOU employee warned that the value of the Shilling was likely to continue falling for sometime. He explained: “I think that the donors are likely to cut aid to Uganda before they increase it, because the political situation is likely to get much worse as the 2011 elections approach. Both the domestic and external debts are likely to get worse because Mr. Museveni is creating more districts even as we speak. He is also preparing to grow army, police and other imports before the elections. And our FOREX reserves are not enough to allow Mutebire to support the Shilling by selling dollars. Maybe for a few weeks.”

Below are the US Dollar exchange rates for since January (on the 20th of each month):

According to a fund raising video playing on pastor Jackson Senyonga’s website, his Christian Life Ministry (CLM) and President Museveni’s government have agreed that, “if the ministry constructs a new hospital in Kampala, the government will convey title to the 75,000 seat stadium known as Mandela National Stadium over to us with all its facilities and acreage” to CLM. While Pastor Senyonga might have reached the said agreement with President Museveni, the stadium capacity claim is totally untrue. The official capacity of the Mandela National Stadium which is reported by president Meseveni’s own ministry of sports is 45,000 seats. And according to Uganda laws, the agreement would be illegal since the Uganda president has no constitutional powers to give away public property, even if he has broken the law in the past. And the Uganda parliament has never passed a bill to support Pastor Senyonga claims.

Pastor Senyonga’s video also contains other controversial claims which many Ugandans might call outright lies. For example, the narrator tells his innocent American Christian audience that, thanks to their past support and the successes of CLM, “Islam was over 30% in the past but has now reduced to about 10%”. And one of the graphics they use to support that statement shows and Arab man – clearly not filmed in Uganda and possibly included to tap anti-Arab/Moslem feelings among the audience. On the contrary, data from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics shows that the percentage of Moslems has never been higher than 13% since census taking started in Uganda. That is more than 50 years ago.

You can view Pastor Senyonga’s fundraising video at www.christianlifeministries.org.

In August 2008, the Daily Review of San Francisco, California, reported that Jackson Senyonga, 41, of Uganda was arrested by sheriff’s deputies at Oakland International Airport on suspicion of fondling a 13 year girl seated next to him on an August 16, 2008 flight. The alleged molestation was said to have occurred on a flight from Denver to Oakland. The Alameda County, California prosecutors said that they had referred the case to the FBI because of jurisdictional issues from being on the plane. The status of the child molestation case against Pastor Senyonga could not be established at the time of writing this report.
