Beti Kamya Understands Martin Luther King

Posted on 14 February 2009

This is my last column on Buganda Post for the foreseeable future and it is dedicated to one of the few Baganda politicians who have the capacity to see beyond the “village chief” political system that President Museveni created in Uganda. It is Beti Namisango Kamya, the woman who threw a spanner in the Banyankore/Bakiga/Banyarwanda conspiracy to marginalize Baganda and make Kabaka and his subjects beggars in their own homeland. More on Beti later.

It is always very difficult to say goodbye to the ones you love. Even more so when the reasons for leaving a totally out of your control. It is against that background that this columnist must tell you that this will be her last posting for the foreseeable future.

Even Museveni Isn’t Sure What Is Going On In Uganda

Posted on 04 December 2008

It now appears that Uganda’s president Museveni and a few of his richest top government officials have lost touch with the reality, the biting poverty which Baganda and the rest of the Uganda population are suffering. Over the last two weeks Mr. Museveni and his Central Bank governor, Tumusiime Mutebire arrogantly bragged about how well Uganda is doing economically. They made these statements even as the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBS) and Museveni’s ministry of Disaster Preparedness issued official reports which pointed to a miserable economic and social situation. The UBS supplies statistical data to Bank of Uganda.

Beti Kamya Takes Buganda Politics to Another Level

Posted on 20 November 2008

Last weekend, Lubaga North MP did what no other Muganda politician has ever done in the history of Uganda. She told her political party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the rest of Uganda, in no uncertain terms, that she would put Buganda’s interests before those of FDC if the two conflicted. She did it publicly and in writing, through a press release (see Beti Kamya: Baganda Must Put Buganda First and Vote As a Block). And, curiously, it very much looks like Beti may be acting on the resolutions that were passed by Ttabamiruka ’09, the Baganda international conference which she attended in August this year.

New Baganda Say That It’s Payback Time

Posted on 01 November 2008

On September 11, 2008 this columnist credited president Museveni inspired Baganda bashing for the emergency of a new breed of Muganda. Kabaka Mutebi, the most important of all Baganda, had gotten fade up and sent the signal to Baganda to relentlessly fight for their land and political rights. And sensing this new tone from their Kabaka, many Baganda, led by the youth and those in the diaspora crystallized into this new Muganda who will not be cowed. It now appears that the new Muganda is starting to tell the Baganda bashers, “Payback time is coming!”

Buganda Defense Force Only Needs a Serious Katikkiro

Posted on 05 October 2008

In June 2008 I asked one of Buganda’s best strategic thinkers today the following question: “Given how things work with African, how can Buganda be taken seriously when it does not have an army?”. He gave me a reply that left me with mixed feelings of confusion and curiosity. He said, “You are mistaken. Buganda has an army, more disciplined and ready than Museveni’s UPDF or presidential guard (PGB). They are trained, they understand Buganda’s enemies from the inside and they are angry. The only missing piece is a serious Katikkiro to show them direction.”

Could Baganda Bashing Have a Positive Side?

Posted on 11 September 2008

From the time Buganda rejected Mr. Museveni’s plan to introduce the Regional Tier system and an elected Katikkiro in the kingdom, the Ugandan president has orchestrated a multi pronged “scorched earth” campaign to destroy Buganda. The writing is on the wall for all with eyes to see.

First, Mr. Museveni is reported to have invested millions of United States dollars in getting rid of Katikkiro Muliika, mostly in bribes to current and former Mmengo officials and a few clan leaders to undermine Muliika. Then he opened the Land Act amendment onslaught, combined with the ferrying of thousands of armed Balaalo and foreigners onto Buganda’s native public lands (9,000 square miles).

Should Buganda Run to FIDA?

Posted on 25 August 2008

FIDA is the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) which promotes and defends the legal rights of women, children and indigents. It has a branch in Uganda.

Over one year ago, Uganda MP for Makindye and one of Buganda’s best political thinkers challenged the people of occupied Buganda to think about the concept of a legal “divorce” from Uganda. He cited, among other reasons, the marginalization of Buganda, endemic corruption that has been institutionalized by President Museveni’s government as reasons for Buganda to consider divorce. Predictably, anti-Buganda forces attacked Kyanjo for his opinion and, like a bully, Mr. Museveni’s government dangled the “treason stick” in front of him.

Let’s Tackle Anti-Gandaism On the Internet Head-on

Posted on 12 August 2008

Taking the cue from President Museveni on Uganda politics and Dr. Besigye in FDC party politics many non-Baganda, especially in the American UNAA network, are drumming up hatred against Baganda on the Internet. Ironically, the

Sekanyolya on the Mark About Katikkiro Walusimbi?

Posted on 26 July 2008

On January 27, 2008, Sekanyolya requested Katikkiro Walusimbi to “drop” Gilbert Bukenya and start to lead. This was when newly appointed Walusimbi had jointly appeared at ceremonies with Museveni’s Vice President Bukenya, where he publically advocated for negotiations between Kabaka Mutebi and Mr. Museveni.
