On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, the oldest active Buganda nationalist organization, Abazzukulu ba Buganda, passed a resolution that Mmengo made a huge mistake when they accepted Shs 350 Million (US$162,790) from president Museveni. The organization members were at their weekly meeting along Kabaka Anjagala Road, near Mmengo Bulange. They warned the Katikkiro and his group that, as they spend Museveni’s money, they should be mindful that it has strings…

It was a major public relations score when the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga spoke in support of his (Walusimbi’s) omumuli program, which is supposed to be funded by grants from Mr. Museveni. And more of the embattled Katikkiro’s prayers were answered when Ssabasajja Kabaka, Muwenda Mutebi II went to a previously scheduled visit to Busujju county, which Mmengo dubbed…

Beti Olive Kamya, Uganda’s MP for Lubaga North, used an opinion piece in The Monitor newspaper of April 27, 2009 to announce her new political organization, known as the Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA). Ms. Kamya’s opinion piece is titled “Make Moroto the administrative seat of government” and, on first reading, it may not appear to be related to announcing any political organization. It is too early to tell if ordinary Baganda, her core constituency, will quickly and widely…

Reports from various corners of Buganda indicate that the overwhelming majority of Kabaka’s subjects are upset with Katikkiro Walusimbi’s decision to accept a Shs 2 Billion (US$ 930,232) offer from President Museveni. And within the Baganda youth movement there is talk of giving him the traditional punishment for treason. Katikkiro Walusimbi announced his unilateral decision [...]

Ugandan rally co-driver Moses Matovu survived a typically harsh and difficult KCB Safari Rally as he guided fellow Ugandan Emmanuel Katto to a top ten overall finish back in Nairobi last Sunday.
The pair, who are contesting the full FIA African Rally Championship in a Tommi Makinen prepared Subaru Impreza N14, are still adapting to the new car and the rough nature of the Safari Rally, once tagged as the world’s toughest rally certainly proved quite a test for both machinery and crew.
