During a joint press conference with Burundi president Pierre Nkurunziiza on May 29, 2009, president Museveni repeated that he had a secret meeting with Katikkiro JB Walusimbi of Buganda where the two agreed to take the draft Land Act of 2009 to parliament for debate. The Buganda Lukiiko had on May 11, 2009, passed a resolution that the proposed new land law was unacceptable to Buganda. It was in response to the resolution that Mr. Museveni…

Below is a statement that was released by the Bunyoro Kingdom on May 24, 2009. A highly reliable source in Mmengo has told us that there have been no plans for Kabaka Mutebi to visit Ndaiga as the statement claims. She warned that this is may be a ploy by Ford Mirima, who is often carrying out state house directives, to distract Baganda onto yet another random topic. The official added: “I am not speaking for Kabaka’s government but, personally, I think Banyoro should start asking…

According a Bank of Uganda (BOU) source, the value of Uganda Shilling against the US Dollar is expected to continue a steady slide downward for a while. A banking officer in the Operations Division of BOU told this reporter on condition of anonymity that there are three major reasons for the misfortunes of the Shilling.
The bank officer said: “First is the global financial crisis which, unfortunately, both the BOU governor and ministry of finance (MOF) chose to joke about…

On May 21, 2009 former Los Angeles, California, resident and now owner of Radio Star, NRM candidate Peter Sematimba was declared the new LCIII chairman for Rubaga after a bitter election fight marred by massive irregularities. Even the Uganda government mouthpiece, the New Vision, on May 22, 2009 reported the results under the heading “Rubaga [...]

Moses Bunjo: Very Angry
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am very angry that the Katikkiro of Buganda is said to be knocking down Baganda’s homes on Kabaka’s land. Where are we supposed to go when the Kabaka who is supposed to protect us is using the same methods which were brought by Mr. Museveni’s government to destroy Baganda? You Mr. Kiwalabye and Engineer Kasekende of land board do you think that there is no better way to solve this problem than the tactics of this regime? You must hate Kabaka Mutebi if you are doing things to make people hate him.

At the beginning of last week president Museveni instructed the Uganda parliament to create 14 new districts. After the president’s wish was communicated to the national assembly by his minister for local government, Adolf Mwesigye, speaker Edward Sekandi acted swiftly and directed the parliamentary committee on local government to give the matter the highest level of priority. Passage by parliament without major problems is highly likely.

J. M. Musoke: Buganda Cabinet Please Resign
I also want to thank Buganda Post for giving us a Letter to Editor section. I hope to be able to use the chance myself to give my thoughts on issue which concern me very much. For now I can say that it is very bad that our leaders in Mengo fear Museveni so much to the extent of allowing him to treat katikiro like a toy.
The position of katikiro has always been very high and respected. He is not supposed to go running every time someone like Museveni coughs.

While trying to subdue the indigenous tribes of western Europe, the Generals of the conquering Roman army were often confounded by the resilience of the natives on the battlefield. As a response, they developed the tactic of declaring truces and then sending lavish gifts across the lines to some of the native commanders, while leaving out others. This would sometimes lead to in-fighting among the natives as mutual suspicion developed, which the Romans would then militarily exploit.
The dust kicked up during the controversy over whether or not Buganda should accept the promised 2 billion shillings (of which a down-payment of 350 million was immediately wired) from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government, is just beginning to settle. Inside and outside Buganda, there was a strong division of opinion. One kingdom got more than the others that got something. Most got nothing at all. Maybe history was being repeated.

Ben Stiller, world famous actor, is currently making an advertising campaign for Save the Children and is talking about his recent trip to Uganda. During the trip he visited families who were beneficiaries of the charity.
“I visited Uganda this year and saw firsthand how Save the Children is making a difference in the lives of children in need,“ Mr. Stiller said. “Even in the poorest, most remote communities, I saw children who were excited about learning and teachers who were helping their students…
