Radio Free Buganda Makes History, Broadcasts Live From Butambala

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

BugandaRadioEquipBoston USA based Radio Free Buganda made history when the commemoration of Kabaka Mutebi’s coronation live from the Butambala County  for at least 4 hours on Friday and Saturday.  The RFB broadcasts were especially important because, according to our sources in broadcasting, the NRM occupation government’s Robert Kabushenga ordered all major new organizations in Uganda not to report on the huge crowds in Butambala. Bukedde was allowed to report on the Kabaka’s tour of Butambala but not to include crowd sizes or live pictures. So, Free Buganda Radio was the only totally channel independent of the NRM occupation government that reported the celebrations live.

The local correspondent on the ground, Eddie Mulyanyamumwa, who was speaking live on www.ekibakibe.com by phone said:  “Nze simanyi nnyo kubala bantu, naye kirabika abantu bassuka emitwaalo nga ena” (“I am not an expert at counting people but it appears that there are at least 40,000 people”).

The Kabaka was officially welcomed by the Butambala County chief, Twaha Lwanyaga, who introduced all the remaining 17 county chiefs. Other important Buganda figures present included the Katikkiro JB Walusimbi, princes and princesses, Buganda cabine members, Omutaka Nakirembeka, Alan Waliggo, all the Gombolola chiefs in Butambala and many others.

The Radio Free Buganda anchor in Boston, Mr. Robert Kabuye, inserted some humor in the long broadcast during the prayers. This is when one Reverend Matovu prayed for NRM’s president Museveni for “restoring the Buganda Kingdom”. Upset by the NRM propaganda from Reverend Matovu, Mr. Kabuye inserted his voice in the feed from Butambala and said: “Eyo esaala esabira Museveni atta abantu? Oyo omusumba wa NRM. ” (“A prayer for Museveni   who is killing people? That clergyman is an NRM.”)

Kabaka’s Representatives In N. America Respond To Buganda Post Story

OPEN LETTER FROM KABAKA’S REPRESENTATIVES IN NORTH AMERICA TO BUGANDA POST

July 28, 2010

We, the Kabaka’s Representatives in North America (Canada and the USA), would like to respond to your article entitled “Questions as Moses Wilson Thanks Kabaka’s Representatives” published on July 25,2010. We would like to clarify and refute some of the misleading, speculative, and damaging information that is contained in your over-referenced posting.

  1. First of all, you expressed concern in your publication that the press release issued by the Kabaka’s Representatives on July 23, 2010, did not specify whether the “official communication from Buganda Kingdom administration” was sent to the Kabaka’s Representatives by the “Kabaka, the Katikkiro or another person in Buganda Kingdom.” It might have been an oversight on our part not to mention that the communication we received was issued by the Katikkiro. However, since the Katikkiro is the leader of the “Buganda Kingdom Administration”, we assumed that it would be fairly obvious to you that the Katikkiro was the source of this communication. Certainly it is naive on your part to suggest that Ssabasajja Kabaka issued the communication because that would not be his role. The Kabaka is not normally engage in the mundane day-to-day operations of the Buganda Kingdom Administration.
  2. Secondly, you indicated in your publication that there were “ongoing conference calls and arguments between Kabaka’s Representatives, UNAA organizers and certain political activists about Katikkiro’s letter of July 0,2010.” You also speculated that “it appears as if the press release by the Kabaka’s Representatives intentionally avoided mentioning Katikkiro as a compromise with certain political interests.” You are simply wrong because we do not know of any Kabaka’s Representatives who participated or engaged in any conference calls with “UNAA organizer and certain political activists about the Katikkiro’s letter.” It would be worthwhile for you provide names of any Kabaka’s Representatives who engaged in such conference calls to prove that what you have written has merit. Please understand that these allegations that you are making about Kabaka’s Representatives are baseless and untrue. These are wild allegations that your publication should not be engaged in, if you claim to work for the good of Buganda.
  3. Thirdly, you also asked why the Kabaka’ Representatives did not report the Katikkiro’s message to the general public for 3 days. We would like to mention that the Katikkiro’s letter was specifically addressed to Kabaka’s Representatives. Please understand that not all the information sent to Kabaka’ s Representatives by the Buganda Kingdom Administration is automatically released to the general public because that would not be appropriate. It usually requires a coordinated, joint effort by the Kabaka’s Representatives to issue a press release. There is no specific time-frame within which the Kabaka’s Representatives have to respond or to communicate such information to the public.
  4. Finally, we, the Kabaka’s Representatives, believe that your publication, the Buganda Post, would he more useful and more credible if you disclosed the source of the information you publish. Your reporters or writers should reveal their names; otherwise one might conclude that your publication is simply engaged name calling and peddling lies and innuendoes. This sort of smear campaign is very destructive to the development of Buganda.

Questions As Moses Wilson Thanks Kabaka’s Representatives

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

moses_wilson1Yesterday, we published a copy of the press release that Kabaka’s representatives in North America issued on July 23,  2010, in connection within UNAA (see “Kabaka’s Representatives Send Intriguing Press Release On UNAA”). The representatives said that they had received an “official communication from the Buganda Kingdom Administration”, but never indicated if it was the Kabaka, the Katikkiro or another person in the Buganda Kingdom  who sent it to them.   Surprisingly, only a few hours later, the Chairman of NRM backed UNAA, Moses Wilson, issued his own press release thanking the Kabaka’s representatives for their press release.

Since Wednesday, our sources in Boston, Washington DC and California were reporting  to us ongoing conference calls and arguments between Kabaka’s representatives, UNAA organizers and certain political activists about the Katikkiro’s letter of July 20, 2010. In fact, it appears as if  the press release by the Kabaka’s representatives intentionally avoided mentioning Katikkiro as a compromise with certain political interests. The very quick and thankful from Mr. Wilson only served to raise more questions about the loyalty of Kabaka’s representatives to Kabaka and Buganda.  One question is why Mr. Wilson, who saw the Katikkiro’s letter on Wednesday is pretending that it is the Kabaka representatives are the ones who clarified Buganda’s position.  Another question is whether Moses Wilson and Fred Kalema-Musoke sincerely believe that Buganda would not be participating in UNAA as stated in the Katikkiro’s letter, even if the current occupant of the Nnabagereka institution attends.

Some of these and other questions were also raised by Mr. Robert Kabuye on his www.EkibaKibe.com 1:30 PM radio program (July 25, 2010).  One question is, why the representatives did not report the Katikkiro’s message for 3 days. Robert Kabuye complained directly to the Katikkiro, asking: “Ababaka bakikirira ani?” (“Who do the Kabaka’s representatives represent?”). He explained that the representatives were elected by Baganda in their individual areas but they are now serving themselves, even censoring Katikkiro messages to us. According to Mr. Kabuye, many of his www.EkibaKibe.com listeners also want the Buganda Government delegation to come to Ttabamiruka ’10 prepared to explain the purpose of Kabaka’s representatives and why some behaving rebelliously. He added that the theme his radio for the whole of next week will be the Kabaka’s representatives and who they serve.

We reproduced Moses Wilson’s message without editing below:

Subject: [UNAANET] Nnabagereka to present UNAA Key Note Speech

 Community Members,

I would like to express my appreciate to Ssabasajja Kabaka’s
Representatives in the US and Canada for their recent clarification of the
position of the Government of Buganda relative to the upcoming UNAA
convention in Washington, DC. Some confusion had arisen as to exactly who
from the Kingdom was going to the UNAA convention in Washington, DC, and
who was going to the Ttabamiruka Convention in New Jersey.

In their official communication, the Kabaka’s Representatives very clearly
stated that the Government of Buganda was not sending representatives or
participating in the UNAA convention due to various ongoing issues in the
Kingdom.

However, the UNAA Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it has
received confirmation that HRH Sylvia Nnaginda, Nnabagereka of Buganda,
will lead a delegation comprised of representatives from the Uganda Cancer
Research Foundation and the Nnabagereka Development Foundation to the UNAA
Convention in Washington, DC, where she will deliver the Key Note Speech.

Convention and Hotel Registration information can be found on the official
UNAA website (www.unaa.org)

Sincerely,

Moses R. Wilson
President (2009-2011)

Kabaka’s Representatives Send Intriguing Press Release On UNAA

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

On July 23, 2010 we received a copy of the press release came from Kabaka’s representatives in North America. We have confirmed that it is genuine. The representatives refer to a communication from “the Buganda Kingdom Administration” without making it clear if it is Katikkiro or Kabaka they are talking about.  It does not say if the communication was by phone, email or letter. However, our sources with deep knowledge of Mmengo has assured us that, if the representatives were talking about the Buganda Government, then all official communication must be in writing and signed by the Katikkiro or other authorized official.

Interestingly enough, the Kabaka’s representative to Washington DC and UNAA promoter, Fred Kalema-Musoke did not sign the press release. We have not yet been able to establish if was not available to do so or if he was simply rejecting the position of the “Buganda Kingdom Administration” (Kabaka, Katikkiro or both). Another point of possible confusion is that the press release was sent out on Jul 23, 2010 but it is dated July 24, 2010.

Ekiba Kibe Host Exposes UNAA Organizers

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

According to today’s morning Ekiba Kibe broadcast by Robert Kabuye, the organizers of NRM funded 2010 UNAA Washington called him and requested that he announce that UADA is cancelling it Boston conference this year. Mr. Kabuye told his listeners: “Abakulu abamu abategeka ebya UNAA eri e Washington DC batukubidde amasimu wano ku Ekiba Kibe nebagamba nti bo tubalangire nti tebalina ttabu na bya Buganda era bawagira nnyo Ttabamiruka naye nti obuzibu babulina ku UADA. Era mbu UADA ku mawulire gebalina mbu tegenda kuberayo.” (“We at Ekiba Kibe got a call from some key organizers and they requested us to announce on radio that they have no issues with Buganda and the even strongly support Ttabamiruka but only have issues with UADA. They also claimed that they have information that the UADA convention is cancelled.”

Mr. Kabuye says that Ekiba Kibe later inquired with the leaders of UADA who told him that the UNAA organizers were lying. He finishes his broadcast saying: “Ffe tetujja kulanga bintu bya UNAA, ebyo mugende mubirangire ku Radio Rwakitura, eno radio ya Buganda.” (“We are not going to announce anything fof UNAA. Go put your announcements on Radio Rwakitura, this is a Buganda radio.”)

Al Shabaab Claims Responsibility For Kampala Bombs

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

On Monday, Somalia’s Al Shabaab Islamist group confirmed that it’s members set off  the two bomb explosions that killed at least 75 people and injured hundreds in Kampala.  In Somalia’s capital, Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage, al Shabaab’s spokesman, told reporters: “Al Shabaab was behind the two bomb blast in Ugandain the Somali capital Mogadishu.” He also  threatened more attacks in both Uganda and Burundi if the two countries leave their troops in Somalia.

“We thank the mujahideens that carried out the attack. We are sending a message to Uganda and Burundi, if they do not take out their AMISOM troops from Somalia, blasts will continue and it will happen in Bujumbura too.”

Earlier, the head of Uganda police, army Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura had told the local press that he suspected Al Shabaab to be behind the blasts that rocked Kabalagala, Kamwokya and Lugogo around 4:00 PM local time. Bombs that failed to explode were also found in another GABA Road location and in Makindye.

On its part, Uganda’s dictatorial NRM government has reacted with threats of retaliation. Without providing detalis, Uganda army spokesman, Felix Karuyigye said: “Our promise to the people of Uganda will be fulfilled. Whoever brings the war to us, we take it to him. We will take the war to Al Shabaab if they have claimed to be responsible for this act.” In reality, the Uganda army’s ability to act is fully dependent on the American and Europen countries who pay for the salaries and food of the Uganda forces in Somalia. In fact at least 50% of the total national budget is also funded by Western donor countries. Yoweri Museveni has ruled Uganda with an iron fist since 1986 and, during that period, his army has has been involved in war and occupation in Buganda, Rwanda, Congo, Southern Sudan and now Somalia.

Bombs Rock Kampala, NRM Among Suspects

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The situation in Kampala is tense after bombs went in Kabalagala, Bukoto and Rugby Club killing at least 60 people who had been watching the FIFA Football World Cup finals around the city. At least 18 people, mostly foreign nationals, are believed to have died or been injured at the Ethiopian Village Restaurant in Kabalagala shopping center around 10:00 PM. The local press has reported at least that 30 bodies were counted at the Kyadondo Rugby Club, which has drawn large audiences over the weekends since the World Cup started. A third bomb went off in Bukoto, a short distance from Kabira Country Club, killing scores of people and injuring at least 100. A fourth bomb is reported to have been planted on Gaba Road but it did not go off as planned by its makers. It is feared that an unreasonable number of the injured will end up dying soon because the healthcare services in Uganda are of such poor quality.

Speculations over who is responsible for the blasts are running wild both in Uganda and outside. According to a story by AP, the Uganda police commander, Kale Kayihura quickly claimed that he suspected Somali terrorist group al-Shabab to be the bombers. The AP also reported that Sheik Yusuf Sheik Issa, an al-Shabab commander, told the news agency that he was happy with the attacks in Uganda. However, he did not claim responsibility. The western countries appear to be quickly coming to be accepting the Uganda’s governments story and have started promising assistance. However, in the opposition and Baganda nationalist circles there is strong suspicion that the NRM government could have planted the bombs to change the political dynamic in the country.

A source in the Uganda opposition has told us: “When you look at the despicable things this government has done to keep itself in power, you have to include them among the suspects. How many Acholi died with the Kony hoax? Look at the Budo virgins they sacrificed in a fire and the thousands of Baganda they murdered in Luwero claiming that it was Obote’s army. They even went to Congo and slughtered thousands of Lendus. Have you forgotten the Kayunga riot massacre in October 2009? The NRM government breathes war, blood and genocide and they have a motive to do this. America and Europe will stop the noise about fair elections in 2011 if they fall for the trick. And if Baganda and Ugandan opposition parties are terrorized, many people will slow down political activities. By the way, even if it is Somali’s who did it, you can still blame this suffering on Museveni’s obsession with war and killing which pushed him to volunteer to take the UPDF to Somalia.”

Boycott Elections Until Museveni’s Constitution Is Replaced, Dan Muliika Says

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

muliika_Boston1On July 5, 2010, a Baganda internet radio called www.ekibakibe.com was broadcasting a speech by retired Buganda Katikkiro, Dan Muliika, where tells Baganda that it makes no sense to participate in the 2011 elections since they will only legitimize Museveni’s dictatorship.  Sources in Boston have confirmed to us that Owek. Muliika made the speech during the last Buganda liberation conference in May 2010. It is not clear at what times Owek. Muliika’s speech is repeated and how long it will stay on www.ekibakibe.com.  You can try your luck to listen to it by going to the site and clicking “Radio” and “Listen Live”.

About Uganda’s system government, the former Katikkiro says, “The electoral commission is Museveni’s personal property, the Parliament is owned by Museveni, the army and police are his and so is the civil service. But even more important, he has looted so much of the national assets; if he loses the elections, it is difficult to imagine how he will be prosecuted or imprisoned by the winner. That is why there is no way he will even allow the situation.”

About the opposition MPs, Owek. Muliika does not mince words. “Real parliamentary opposition disappeared in 1966. People like Betty Kamya and Latigo are mere pawns that Museveni uses to make his government appear legitimate. He uses them to argue to the donors that there is democracy in Uganda.”

On the inter-party coalition (IPC) that includes DP-Buganda, Mulwaanyamuli’s Suubi, FDC, Otunnu’s UPC, and others, Muliika, dismissed the whole idea as a farce that involves people who do not trust each other. He questioned why, if they have clear and intelligent political objectives, they do not form one party but constantly says that they are separate. He  refers to the alliance using a Luganda saying,  “Eyo alliance gyebayita ‘Malako enyama ompe amagumba’” (“That alliance in nothing but a  ‘You can eat the meat but leave the bones’ for me deal”). He calls the IPC evidence of the “politics of intrigue” from which Buganda cannot gain anything.  He challenges the audience to do some thinking with, “Lawaaki oyingira ekitima ekiwedde ng’otunula?” (“How can you blindly enter such an obvious trap with your eyes open?”)

On the holding of elections, Owek. Muliika argues that there should be no elections until Uganda’s constitution reflects the wishes of the citizen, not the current one, which was imposed by Museveni’s government. And until all national institutions are answerable to the people, not to an individual.

The retired Katikkiro called on Baganda in the diasopra to lead in the civic education of our people about their self-determination rights. He used Otunnu as an example, saying, “Although Otunnu is dangerous he still taught Ugandans something good.” He explained the president of UPC, which occupied and terrorized Buganda in 1966, recently taught Ugandans how to resist arbitrary and illegal police arrests by Museveni’s police.

One area that Owek. Muliika advised diaspora Baganda to include in the civic education is genocide. He told them that the Ugandans are practicing genocide against Buganda when they change the name of the kingdom from “Buganda” to “Central Region”. It is also genocide to change “Ssese Islands” [a Buganda county] to “Kalangala District”. All these things the Ugandans are doing by force to erase the identity of Buganda and Baganda are acts of genocide under international law.

Abazzukulu Tell Mmengo To Keep Buganda Out of 2011 Elections

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Walusimbi2Abazzukulu ba Buganda, the most active Baganda nationalist organization today, accuses Katikkiro Walusimbi and Mmengo of attempting to manipulate Ssabasajja Kabaka into giving up Buganda’s rights to self-determination. Abazzukulu did this in a public letter to the Katikkiro  signed by Chairman Jjunju Kamulali. Below are the main points of the 3-page letter Luganda letter, translated in into English. The original Luganda letter is reproduced in full at the bottom.
  1. In the 1950’s the British imposed their style of elections on Buganda as the ransom for the return of Ssekabaka Muteesa II whom they had exiled in 1953. That condition is what is called the “Namirembe Agreement of 1955” today. The tragic results of that religion based election must not be forgotten because they started the divisions between Catholic and Protestant Baganda, with the Catholics who lost the Katikkiroship  becoming opponents of Mmengo. Between 1955 and 1962, the Catholics formed the DP while the Protestants spent their energies on fighting each other. When the Catholics [through DP] joined the politics of destroying Buganda, the Protestants teamed up with [the dangerous] Obote simply to beat the Catholics in DP. The results of all that is why we have tears in our eyes today. Why can’t we learn from our history?
  2. In the 1981 elections, Baganda acted as one and supported their countryman [Paul Ssemwogerere], what Buganda got out of it is the troubles in Bulemeezi (Museveni’s guerilla war and Baganda massacres in Luweero Triangle).
  3. Even if all the [80] Buganda MPs who win [in 2011] support the kingdom’s interests, what real effect will they have in the Uganda parliament [of more than 300 members] where the rest are against anything good for Buganda. And what scale will Mmengo use to accurately judge who supports Buganda enough?
  4. It is clear that your true intention is to mortgage the Buganda nation because if kingdom representatives officially compete in the 2011 and lose, the world will expect Baganda to respect future decisions by the winners.
  5. Buganda is a natural nation and Uganda is just an experiment in nation building. So Buganda, the nation, cannot officially participate in the disorganized elections of the confused Uganda, except if the intention is to end up worse off than before.
  6. It must be remembered that in 1966 [May 19th], the Buganda Lukiiko passed a resolution telling the government of Uganda to leave Buganda soil, after it broke the 1962 independence agreement. Since that time, the Uganda government is occupying Buganda by force of arms. Until Buganda as a nation cancels the 1966 resolution the Uganda government rules us illegally under international law and we can take our case to international courts.
  7. It seems that you, acting on instructions from the Uganda government, want to confuse the people of Buganda and make us think that Buganda issues can be solved by the 2011 elections. You claim to be the official representatives of Buganda in the elections to create the image that Buganda is officially and voluntarily competing in the elections and, therefore, is no longer under armed occupation.
  8. This is not the first time that you have tried this trick to get the 1966 Lukiiko resolution officially cancelled and forgotten. First, you wanted to use the Charter system and when it failed to brought in the Regional Tier. After Buganda rejected the Regional Tier, you started the campaign to manipulate Kabaka Mutebi into signing the cancellation of the 1966 Lukiiko resolution, hiding behind what you called “negotiations” [with Museveni]. Now you are looking for another channel, the 2011 elections!
  9.  If you really have no bad intentions for Buganda, it is not too late. Stop doing anything that creates the image that the nation of Buganda is officially participating in the 2011 elections or any other Ugandan elections. Buganda Government officials who want to stand in such elections, as individuals and not representatives of Buganda, should first resign from Kabaka’s service. If you cannot help Baganda against losing their human rights by participating in fake elections, please leave them to do so because of the armed occupation but not because of your manipulation.

Museveni Wants To Arrest Muliika, Boston Pastor

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On June 16, 2010 we received an email announcement from a person we now know to be a close advisor to former Katikkiro Dan Muliika. He is a church pastor in the Boston area.

According to the Luganda email, Muliika’s camp has discovered a plot by Museveni to arrest the former Katikkiro.  The email presents no such evidence. However, it asks every one to remember president Museveni’s recent threat to “cut off Buganda’s head”. It is not clear if the email is suggesting that former Katikkiro Dan Muliika is Buganda’a head.

When Owek. Muliika last visted Boston less than 2 months ago, he was declared leader of a new political group to fight Museveni through civic education of all Ugandans.  It was named Ggwanga Mujje International, which some Baganda found offensive. Then less than two weeks ago, Mr. Muliika announced, with former Katikkiro Mulwaanyamuli Ssemwogerere, that he was supporting Uganda’s opposition coalition and Kiiza Besigye.

The email from Owek. Muliika’s Boston based advisor is reproduced in full below:
